Accelerated Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Adoption by Employees

A global financial services company faced challenges in driving MFA adoption among its employees due to lack of awareness and resistance to change. By leveraging Whatfix’s in-app guidance, the company accelerated MFA adoption, improved data security, and reduced the burden on IT resources.

The company struggled to get its employees to adopt MFA across their enterprise applications. Due to a lack of awareness and resistance to change, 60% of employees had not completed their MFA setup. This led to disproportionate time spent by the IT team on driving implementation efforts, and increased the risk of data loss with potential financial impact and legal consequences in the event of a cybersecurity incident.

Whatfix deployed a Pop-Up over mission-critical software that included educational content on MFA, raising awareness of its importance and encouraging employees to complete the setup process. Smart Tips were used to nudge users who hadn’t set up MFA to enable it on all accounts, choose strong authentication methods, and regularly review their settings for optimal security. Additionally, step-by-step Flows were created, triggered by notifications, to guide users through the MFA setup process for their applications directly on their web browsers.
